13% of hospice patients in 2009 ended their life in a hospital because a care facility was not available.
Yakima County's hospice agencies have seen consistent growth in the number of patients served over the past eight years.
More than 4,000 Yakima Valley patients and their families have received hospice care in the last five years.
Cottage in the Meadow will serve patients from Yakima Valley Memorial Hospice, Kittitas Valley Home Health & Hospice, Lower Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, and Yakima Regional Home Health and Hospice.
Cottage in the Meadow provides respite care for caregivers, allowing them a needed break while the patient is cared for in the Hospice center.
The total project cost is estimated at $6.2 million dollars

What will Cottage in the Meadow include?

An initial 12-bed hospice care homelike setting with comfortable patient and family areas with easy access for visitation, and 24-hour onsite trained hospice site. Future phases will expand the facility to 20 private patient rooms.
Specially trained nurses, social workers, pharmacists, chaplains, volunteers, and personal care aides to assist patients and their families.
